Democracy

Democracy is embedded within the school. Pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard through our School Council. There is an annual pupil questionnaire and opportunities in assemblies to express opinions and viewpoints. Our school behaviour policy involves rewards and sanctions; this is shared through all aspects of school life and also shared with parents, carers and children from Reception to Year 6.

What do we do?
• Provide pupils with a broad general knowledge of, and promote respect for, public institutions and services
• Teach pupils how they can influence decision-making through the democratic process
• Encourage pupils to become involved in decision-making processes and ensure they are listened to in school
• Hold ‘mock elections’ so pupils learn how to argue and defend points of view
• Help pupils to express their views
