Today is all about applying 'how many left'. Vocabulary remains key when giving a context (story) to the numbers (first, then, now). Unlike addition, subtraction starts with the greatest number (the whole number). The parts are what have been taken away and what is left.

Use the reasoning activity only if your child is secure with applying their subtraction skills. 

As always, concrete resources / objects will help your child so they can manipulate the numbers.
